Postmenopausal women who take estrogen and progestin replacement therapy–but not those taking only estrogen–exhibit increases in breast density on mammography, according to a report in the January 1st issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Gail A. Greendale from the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine, and colleagues compared baseline and 12-month mammograms of 571 women, 45 to 64 years of age, who participated in the Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions Trial.
