Even though occupational driving may worsen lower back pain, it does not cause lumbar disc degeneration or accelerate the development of other structural abnormalities, according to a report in The Lancet for November 2.
Researchers led by Dr. Michele C. Batti, of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, took advantage of the population-based Finnish Twin Cohort to investigate the effects of lifetime driving exposure in monozygotic twins with greatly differing patterns of exposure to driving.
