NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 02 – In the emergency room (ER) setting, morphine can be given to children with acute abdominal pain without affecting the physical examination, according to a report in the April issue of Academic Emergency Medicine.
In the past, analgesics have been withheld from patients with abdominal pain, largely out of concern that important findings that may mandate surgical intervention might be masked. While recent reports have dispelled this myth in adults, the issue has never been addressed in children.
