‘Auri Metho ‘ Treats Prominent Pinna in Children

The “Auri method” successfully treats prominent pinna in children, according to a report in the December issue of the Archives of OtolaryngologyHead and Neck Surgery. This nonsurgical method involves wearing a custom-made clip applied to the outer ear at night and an invisible shaping adhesive strip applied to the back of the ear during the day. “The described Auri method is easy to use and easy to apply on the pinna, and the parents themselves can treat their children.

The Auri method is efficient because the clip squeezes, bends, and stretches the cartilage of the pinna at the same time in three different planes,” write Michael M. Sorribes, MD, from Gentofte University Hospital in Hellerup, Denmark, and colleagues. “The combination of the two devices [the clip plus the day-time strip] makes it possible to treat the children for many hours a day without discomfort.”
