Bone lead levels are directly related to the risk of hypertension during pregnancy, according to a report published in the December 15th issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Dr. Stephen J. Rothenberg, from the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles, and colleagues evaluated the link between lead levels and hypertension during pregnancy by analyzing data from 1006 women who were enrolled in prenatal care clinics between 1995 and 2001. Blood lead levels were measured to assess current lead exposure, while bone levels were used as an indicator of past exposure.
