An educational program in which nurses discuss treatment options for menorrhagia with patients helps reduce the rate of hysterectomy, the most invasive and costly approach.
“The study indicates important reductions in hysterectomy and inpatient and outpatient costs,” Andrew D. M. Kennedy, from Brunel University in Uxbridge, UK, and colleagues write in the December 4th issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
