At the 27th European Society for Medical Oncology congress here on Sunday, researchers said that older cancer patients are better able to tolerate cancer treatments than many doctors think, and urged physicians to reconsider the way they manage the elderly.
In one study, Dr. Anne Chantal Braud, and associates from Institute Paoli Calmettes, Marseilles, showed that in one hospital policy changes for treating older women with breast cancer dramatically increased the number of elderly women who received optimal treatment.
