NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Oct 07 –
Allowing infants to sleep in the prone position accounts for about one third of SIDS deaths among African Americans, a group that has more than twice the SIDS mortality compared with Caucasians.
Dr. Fern R. Hauck from the University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, and colleagues from the Chicago Infant Mortality Study evaluated 260 infants, ages birth to 1 years, who died from SIDS between November 1993 and April 1996. A control group included 260 infants matched for age, race and birth weight
