Focal Liver Lesions Detected During NHL Follow-Up Need Full Diagnostic Work-Up


In patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), focal liver lesions detected at the time of diagnosis are often benign, Italian researchers have determined. Conversely, most such lesions detected during follow-up are malignant.

Dr. Giuseppe Civardi and colleagues, of Ospedale Civile in Piacenza, reviewed the records of 414 consecutive NHL patients who had been followed for at least 12 months. Of these, 234 had aggressive NHL and 180 had indolent NHL. Abdominal ultrasonography and chest and abdominal CT scanning were performed at the time of first diagnosis, after treatment, and regularly during follow-up.
