SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters Health) May 27 –
Hepatitis C could possibly be transmitted by common household items such as toothbrushes, researchers warned here last week at the annual meeting of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Researchers, led by Dr. Claus Hellerbrand, at the University of Regensburg, Germany, prospectively studied 30 patients infected with hepatitis C to see whether their toothbrushes became contaminated with hepatitis C RNA. The investigators also collected saliva samples from infected patients both before and after they brushed their teeth.
