Aspirin’s harmful effects on the gastric mucosa are more pronounced when Helicobacter pylori infection is present, according to findings from an animal study published in the May issue of Gut.
While H. pylori infection and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use are known to cause mucosal injury, the interaction between the two has been unclear, lead author Dr. N. Yoshida and colleagues, from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan, note.
