An Australian man who underwent liver transplantation developed a life-threatening nut allergy apparently transmitted through the donated organ, according to a report published in the January 27th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
And while allergy transmission during transplantation appears to be rare, the findings suggest that all organ donors should be screened for allergies prior to donation, lead author Dr. Tri Giang Phan, from the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and colleagues note.
