An apparent synergistic effect of combined raloxifene and slow release sodium fluoride therapy induces a significant increase in bone mineral density among women with postmenopausal osteoporosis.
This has been found in a one-year study from the Universita degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza, Rome, Italy. Ninety two women were randomly assigned to either raloxifene (RLX) 60 mg daily, or a combination of raloxifene 60 mg daily and slow release sodium fluoride 25 mg x twice a day.
In addition, all of the women received oral calcium carbonate (500 mg x 2/day) and vitamin D3 (400 UI x 2/day). Eighty five women completed the study.
