German scientists have developed a new ex vivo method of monitoring cell-mediated immunity induced by vaccines, which they describe in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences early edition for December 23.
Also, using this technique, Dr. Gerd Sutter of the Institut fur Virologie in Munich, and colleagues have identified the highly attenuated, replication-deficient modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) as a potential candidate as a second-generation poxvirus vaccine.
