Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) appear to offer comparable quality-of-life benefits for patients with severe angina, who are poor candidates for surgery and would not benefit from revascularization, according to a recent report.
Dr. Olof Ekre and colleagues, from the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Goteborg, Sweden, assessed the outcomes of 104 angina patients who were randomized to undergo SCS or CABG. All of the patients had severe angina, were at increased surgical risk and were thought to have no prognostic benefit from revascularization.
