Major Decline in Out-of-Hospital Ventricular Fibrillation Reported in Seattle

– In the last two decades, the incidence of out-of-hospital ventricular fibrillation (VF) in Seattle has decreased by about 56%, according to a report published in the December 18th issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

 The decline in VF cases, which has also been observed in Finland and Sweden, probably reflects the decline in heart disease mortality that has been seen at the national level, lead author Dr. Leonard A. Cobb, from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and colleagues note.
