HIV Coinfection Linked to Poorer Response to Interferon in HBV-Infected Patients


Patients infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HIV, with evidence of immunosuppression, have a poorer response to interferon-alfa therapy than patients who are only infected with HBV, according to a report published in the December issue of Gastroenterology.

Still, interferon-alfa therapy does appear to reduce the risk of HBV cirrhosis in patients with HIV coinfection.
