An annual national survey released on Monday shows that fewer American 8th and 10th graders used illegal drugs in 2002 than in 2001, and that smoking is becoming increasingly unpopular among US teens.
Thirty-five percent of US 10th graders and 17% of 8th graders reported that they used illegal drugs within the last year, according to the survey, which is conducted each year for the federal government by the University of Michigan. Both figures are significantly lower than they were in last year’s survey.
