A strategy to quickly identify upper respiratory tract infections due to influenza may help reduce transmission of the virus, according to study findings presented here Thursday at the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s annual meeting.
In a demonstration project at the 2002 Winter Olympics, researchers at the University of Utah School of Medicine showed that rapid detection and treatment of influenza can reduce symptoms, prevent spread to others, and cut the use of antibiotics.
