Plasma levels of a chemokine that is involved in T-cell trafficking are elevated in children with asthma, according to a report by Chinese researchers.
The molecule, known as thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC), was first isolated and characterized in 1996. TARC levels have been shown to correlate with the severity of atopic dermatitis, but any relationship with the occurrence and severity of childhood asthma has not been evaluated.
