Large percentages of doctors who likely have a high level of knowledge of gastrointestinal disease are making medical decisions unsupported by a strong basis in clinical scientific evidence, according to national survey of 508 primary care physicians.
Dr. William D. Chey, of the University of Michigan Health System, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States, presented a summary of the findings here October 23 at the annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
The survey was completed by internists and family medicine practitioners as they registered for regional consultant conferences around the nation. The mean age of the doctors was 48 and the mean number of years in practice was 17.
