Gastric Bypass Surgery Increases Survival of Obese Patients

Gastric bypass surgery not only reduces the weight of morbidly obese patients, it also appears to increase their life expectancy, according to a statistical analysis presented at the

annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in San Francisco. 

Furthermore, the average number of years gained–up to 3.9–compares favorably with that

of other procedures known to increase life expectancy, such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).
