A combination of drospirenone and 17-beta-estradiol (E2) has a significant additive blood pressure-lowering effect in hypertensive postmenopausal women receiving enalapril, researchers report in the September issue of the American Journal of Hypertension. Dr. Richard A.
Preston of the University of Miami School of Medicine and colleagues note that aldosterone has been implicated in progressive cardiovascular disease. Drospirenone has aldosterone receptor-blocking activity and a drospirenone/E2 combination has been developed for use as hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
