Internet Monitoring Tool Boosts Asthma Compliance

Sept. 18, 2002 —

Nearly 7,400 asthmatic patients in Denmark are logging onto the Internet each day to improve the monitoring and management of their condition. Early results indicate that compliance rates are significantly higher for patients who monitor and get treatment for their asthma conditions electronically instead of with conventional methods, according to a study presented this week at the 12th Annual Congress of the European Respiratory Society, Stockholm, Sweden.

Patients who register at the website, (see below) designed specifically for interactive asthma management, gain access to an electronic diary that allows them to record their daily symptoms, medication use and peak flow measurements. Data is then reviewed and monitored by more than 300 general practitioners (GPs) who can gain access to patient diaries from their own personal computers (PCs).
