While osteoarthritis patients listed for hip-replacement are more likely to be physically and socially restricted than other people, there is no apparent impairment in their mental state and vitality.
This is in contrast with other chronic pain disorders, according to researchers at the University of Keele, Keele, City General Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, and Southampton General Hospital, Southampton, England.
“Manual social class is not linked to being on a waiting list for osteoarthritic hip replacement but does add to the burden on health status, particularly social functioning in those with osteoarthritis of the hip,” they say.
