Fatigue is common in patients with chronic hepatitis C, according to a report in the September issue of Gut, and it is more pronounced in. females than males.
Dr. T. Piche and colleagues from the University Hospital Center of Nice, France, studied fatigue in patients with chronic hepatitis C and examined its association with disease activity, resting energy expenditure (REE), circulating leptin, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha).
Seventy-eight patients with chronic hepatitis C, 22 healthy controls, and 13 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis were included in the study.
