NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 29 –
In overweight individuals, high dietary sodium intake is a strong independent risk factor for congestive heart failure (CHF), according to a report published in the July 22nd issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
As the authors point out, findings from several cross-sectional epidemiologic studies have suggested a link between sodium intake and left ventricular hypertrophy. However, there is relatively little data from prospective cohort studies regarding the relationship between sodium intake and CHF.
