Florida’s Office of the Attorney General has begun an inquiry into whether Eli Lilly & Co. violated state unfair trade practices when sales personnel allegedly mailed fee samples of the antidepressant Prozac (fluoxetine) to patients taking other anti-depressants, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
The state’s investigation is in its early stages, the Journal said. Violations of the state’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices statute are punishable by civil fines of $10,000 per incident, it said.
John Newton, a senior assistant attorney general with that office’s civil rights and economic crimes unit, did not respond to Reuters Health’s requests for comment at deadline on Monday.
