The results of a new study confirm previous reports that, in addition to lowering cholesterol, statin therapy significantly reduces concentrations of C-reactive protein, an inflammation marker associated with risk of coronary heart disease, Swiss researchers report.
Dr. W. F. Riesen from the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Hematology, Kantonsspital, St. Gallen, and colleagues studied 155 randomly selected participants in the Swiss Intervention Trial for Lowering Cholesterol (SWITCH).
