NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 21 –
Losartan’s antihypertensive effects are largely mediated by its ability to inhibit central and peripheral sympathetic nerve activity, according to a report published in the June issue of Hypertension.
To evaluate losartan’s effects, Dr. Vito M. Campese and colleagues, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, created a rat model of neurogenic hypertension. Hypertension was induced in the rat model by injecting phenol into the lower pole of one kidney.
