NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 18 –
On-the-job exposure to secondhand smoke in the US has been greatly reduced due to various restrictions on smoking, study findings show.
However, some blue-collar and service workers continue to remain at greater risk of passive smoking than their white-collar peers.
This finding is not surprising, lead study author Dr. Pascale M. Wortley, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, told Reuters Health. She explained that bartenders are included in the service worker group, and “bars are places where people tend to smoke a lot.”
