NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 22 –
A better assessment of cardiovascular disease risk among US men is obtained when systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) are considered together, not just systolic or diastolic BP or pulse pressure alone.
Dr. James D. Neaton, from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and colleagues collected data on 342,815 men, 35 to 57 years of age, who participated in the Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial. At baseline (from 1973 through 1975), these men had no history of diabetes or myocardial infarction.
