NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 17 – Replacing catheters with fistulas or grafts, educating patients, and taking into account dialyzer manufacturers' specifications along with patient size can optimize the dosing of hemodialysis, Ohio investigators report in the April 17 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Randall D. Cebul, of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and colleagues randomly assigned 21 nephrologists to an intervention addressing dialysis prescriptions, placement of grafts or fistulas for vascular access, and shortened treatment time. Twenty-three nephrologists received no intervention.
