Dietary fibre sources require careful assessment for patients suffering myofascial face pain, say American clinicians.
Pain intensity can increase in severity with the effort of mastication. Consequently, patients tend to reduce their dietary fibre intake to limit the need to chew. Combined with the more commonly prescribed analgesics, this dietary reduction results in constipation, with its resultant general malaise and potential for exacerbation of comorbid medical conditions.
Clinicians in various departments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey and the New Jersey Medical and Dental Schools in Newark, New Jersey, designed a study to determine the effect of myofascial face pain (MFP) on the intake of selected dietary nutrients.
