Diabetes appears to be a long-term risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and this risk is not associated with insulin therapy, suggest the results of a 35-year longitudinal study of Israeli men.
The research was presented here July 23 at the 8th International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders.
Ramit Ravona-Springer, MD, of Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Hashomer, in Ramat Gan, Israel, and colleagues followed Israeli men who were 40 years or older and were participants in a 1963 cardiovascular risk factor cohort study. The men were assessed for diagnosis of
dementia in 1999.
