Elderly African-American women may be at higher risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) than previously thought, new study findings suggest.
Although SCC is the most common form of skin cancer among blacks, the estimated incidence is only 3 cases per 100,000 people. However, findings from the new study suggest that the incidence may be 10 or 20 times higher. Furthermore, elderly black women with leg lesions account for a large proportion of these cases.
