NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Oct 18 –
A mixture of arginine, beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate and glutamine enhances wound collagen production in healthy elderly patients, researchers report. Dr. Adrian Barbul from Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, and colleagues implanted two small, sterile polytetrafluoroethylene tubes subcutaneously in the deltoid region of 35 healthy volunteers, 70 years of age or older.
The 1-mm diameter tubes were porous to allow ingrowth of fibroblasts and deposition of matrix.
