Immunoglobin E (IgE) may not relate to the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis.
Japanese researchers report that serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) levels may increase in atopic dermatitis according to inflammatory skin lesions. Investigators from Tokyo Medical University, Tokyo, Japan, suggest levels may be exaggerated with immunological activity in extrinsic-type atopic dermatitis.
They define the extrinsic-type disease as serum IgE greater than 10,000 international units per millilitre and intrinsic type disease as serum IgE less than 37 IU/mL.
