Sixty-day treatment with 3.0% diclofenac in 2.5% hyaluronan gel improves actinic keratoses and is well-tolerated.
Investigators from multiple Canadian institutions including the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, evaluated the treatment in 195 patients with at least five actinic keratoses.
Actinic keratoses are premalignant skin lesions that can develop into squamous cell carcinoma if left untreated. Current treatments tend to be destructive with a high number of adverse effects.
In this study, patients received either the new treatment of 3.0% diclofenac in 2.5 grams of 2.5% hyaluronan gel or a placebo of gel only twice daily for 30 or 60 days.
