Laundry detergents seldom cause allergic contact dermatitis.
Although an incidence of 0.68 percent for detergent-induced allergy in dermatitic patients was found in a study by dermatologists, it may be too high, they say. This could be because of false-positive irritant reactions.
In a multi-centre study, five (0.68 percent) of 738 patients with dermatitis had positive reactions to a 0.1% aqueous dilution of a granular laundry detergent.
