As many as one in three people in Austria may have high levels of homocysteine, which has been linked to increased heart disease risk, doctors said on Friday.
This figure, from a relatively small study, is much higher than the previous estimate of a 10% prevalence. The head of the study, Dr. Bernhard Zirm, from Bad Radkersburg hospital in southern Austria, said the findings were applicable to many European countries.
