At a medical meeting this week in Miami, researchers reported the first case of aortic valve replacement in which a completely endovascular approach was used.
“If this approach is verified in further studies, it could represent a viable treatment option for seriously ill patients,” Dr. Martin Leon, from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, told Reuters Health. However, it is still too early to know if this approach could ever be a replacement for open repair in patients without major medical problems, he added.
