Serum Albumin Not Linked to Carotid Atherosclerosis


Lower serum albumin levels do not appear to be associated with an increased risk of carotid atherosclerosis, according to a report published in the January issue of Stroke.


“Previously, we had shown that low serum albumin levels are predictive of all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction,” lead author Dr. Luc Djousse, from Boston University School of Medicine, told Reuters Health. “In the current study, we were interested in determining whether low albumin levels were also associated with carotid atherosclerosis.”
