Findings from a small study suggest that photodynamic therapy is useful in preventing the restenosis of angioplasty-treated superficial femoral arteries (SFAs). Although angioplasty is a useful treatment for occluded arteries, its effectiveness is limited by the occurrence of restenosis.
Also, stenting is less effective in preventing restenosis in femoral arteries than in coronary arteries, Dr. J. R. McEwan, from Middlesex Hospital in London, and colleagues in the December issue of the British Journal of Surgery.
