Intranasal furosemide is a valid therapeutic aid in preventing recurrent naso-sinusal polyps following surgical treatment, Italian researchers say.
Investigators from the Medical School at the University of Sienna suggest that the relapse of nasal polyps after surgery is an unsolved problem and a challenge to researchers. They observed that there are three histopathological characteristics of nasal polyps: oedema, vessel dilatation and inflammatory cell infiltration.
To determine whether furosemide administered by nasal inhalation would demonstrate long-term efficacy in preventing nasal polyps relapse, the researchers enrolled 104 patients affected by rhino-sinusal polyposis.
