Results of a study published in the October issue of Chest suggest that emphysema is associated with being underweight and chronic bronchitis is associated with being obese.
“Recent studies have suggested a relationship between asthma and obesity,” Dr. Robert A. Barbee and colleagues from the University of Arizona, Tucson, note. “Despite these reports, the effect of being underweight or overweight as a risk factor for airway obstructive diseases (AODs) is not clear.”
