The risk of suicide among individuals with a history of parasuicide continues for many years after the initial event, according to the results of a population-based study published in the November 16th issue of the British Medical Journal.
Dr. Gary R. Jenkins from the East Ham Memorial Hospital, London, and colleagues collected data on 223 episodes of parasuicide reported between May 1977 and March 1980. The researchers attempted to trace these patients 22 years later using data from the Office of National Statistics.
