NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Aug 27 –
The formation of malignant and nonmalignant skin tumors in mice following exposure to ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation is greatly reduced by topical applications of caffeine or (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), constituents of green and black tea, Rutgers University investigators report.
According to their report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science early online edition, Dr. Allan H. Conney and associates of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in Piscataway, irradiated hairless mice with UVB 30 mJ/cm twice a week for 20 weeks.
