A fresh investigation into a spate of incidents involving blocked anaesthetic breathing tubing that killed a young boy and endangered other patients was announced by Britain’s chief medical officer on Monday.
Sir Liam Donaldson said a major police investigation had found no evidence of sabotage, but within the health service the issue was still being taken “very seriously” and an expert group would examine the 13 incidents again.
He said police had passed details of the cases to the Health and Safety Executive, which would work with the health department and other agencies to decide what further action was required.
