Three-hour paclitaxel infusion therapy is effective in advanced gastric cancer, and is well tolerated by patients.
Japanese researchers conducted a phase II clinical trial to see if options for gastric cancer chemotherapy could be increased. Investigators from 10 research centres in Saitama, Tokyo, Osaka, Takatsuki, Aomori, Sendai, Nagoya and Sagamihara enrolled 32 patients with measurable metastatic gastric cancer.
Seventeen patients (53 percent) had already received chemotherapy and 11 patients (34 percent) were chemotherapy-naïve. The remaining four patients (13 percent) had had adjuvant chemotherapy alone.
Participants received a three-hour intravenous infusion of paclitaxel at a dosage of 210 mg/m² every three weeks. They also received standard pre-medication to prevent hypersensitivity reactions.
